Oregon's Energy Facility Siting Council is made up of seven volunteer members who are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. The Energy Facility Siting Council is responsible for overseeing the development of large electric generating facilities, high voltage transmission lines, gas pipelines, radioactive waste disposal sites, and other projects. Facility siting and layout is a process for finding an optimal location for a chemical or petroleum processing site and then arranging the units and equipment. They are related to how to select a site, how to recognize and assess long-term risks, and how to lay out the facilities and equipment within that site.

The siting of correctional facilities is a critical issue across the counL.J'. Despite ongoing construction of correctional facilities, most states and many counties continue to fall short of meeting the need for new bedspace. Community acceptance and cooperation are vital . Facility siting conducts an evaluation of the spatial relationships within a plant and between a plant and surrounding area. Traditionally the focus was the spacing between process equipment. Now, the emphasis is on the location of process hazards in respect to employees at the plant, as well as emergency response and plant security.

Facility siting. These two words appear in OSHA's PSM standard in the midst of other requirements that your PHA study must address, but no other details are provided. In part 1 of this facility siting episode, Wesley and Rob dive into a catastrophic event that highlighted the importance of facility siting, and then give a brief overview of what a facility siting study focuses on and how the it. By updating the title, which was formerly Guidelines for Facility Siting and Layout, it has been emphasized that this book focuses not only on siting of buildings and unit operations within a facility, but also on siting of facilities within a community.

What is Facility Siting. Facility siting is a continuous cycle. It is intended to be revised and updated as processes and facilities change, though it is not uncommon for the initial facility siting study to be considered "the end" or the "goal." This ongoing cycle can be broken down into six (6) steps: Corporate Practice; Pre-Study/Initial.

Facility siting is a continuous process that begins with an initial study, the results of which are then revalidated on a periodic basis in order to measure and manage the risk associated with any changes to the facility. The facility siting process is part of the mandatory Process Hazard Assessment (PHS) required by OSHA’s Process Safety.
